FAQ/Resources - What We Do 101ApparelWhen it comes to wearables and accessories, there is not much we can’t get our hands on. From basic t’s, sweats, hats and jackets, to bags, socks, uniforms and custom goods, we have suppliers for pretty much everything under the sun. Most items can be decorated with a number of options. Below are summarized descriptions of those techniques. Silk-Screen PrintingInk gets applied via squeegee directly to the garment/product through a silk screen with part of the screen being blocked off to prohibit the ink going through. The process requires creating a positive film that then gets burned onto the screen. The screen then gets put in place on the print wheel where underneath is a pallet that the goods are placed on. The screen then gets pulled down onto the garment and the squeegee work begins. Multiple print colors require multiple screens and also need to be registered before printing begins. Each screen requires a set-up charge. Minimum run is as low as (12) pieces on most orders. To see a diagram of this process click here. Heat Press (CAD Cut)This process is mainly used for names and numbers. Quite simply, the material (CAD) is placed onto the garment. The garment is then placed on a heat press where the cad is heated thus adhering to the garment. This process can also be used for transfers, although we do not prefer to go that route, and can be an inexpensive alternative to screen printing-especially on orders less than (12) pieces. There are usually no set-ups required and the minimum run can be as low as (1) piece. This is the process that you have seen at the shops down the shore-you go in, pick a design and they heat press it on. EmbroideryThe garment/product gets sewn on directly. First, the goods need to be “hooped”. This will leave the open are inside as the area to be embroidered. The hoops are then placed into specialized sewing machines where a computer controls the stitch pattern and colors to be used in the design. Each piece requires registration and, after completion, may need to be trimmed. The specialized sewing machines can be a single head (needle set-up) all the way up to, at least what I have seen, 18 heads. Embroidery also requires the art file to be digitized so that the computer can read it and direct the machine. Each digitized file requires a set-up charge. Minimum run can be as low as (1) piece. Tackle Twill/AppliquéThis is where material (twill) gets sewn onto the garment or product. This is the process typically used on varsity jackets and the like. It can be anything from simple 1 color (layer) letters to multiple layers of twill with embroidery accompaniment to produce designs that can really sing. These are totally custom jobs. Minimum run can be as low as (1) piece. Set-up charges may or may not apply-it really depends on the job and what we are doing. ChenilleLetters are a classical object of decoration found on school "letter jackets". The letter decoration is manufactured by weaving colored yarn (chenille) upon a base of felt in the solid area of the letter. The letter shape is then cut from the base fabric. This decoration is then sewn onto the garment. The resulting effect is the appearance of a colored letter upon the garment with an outline of felt around the letter.
